The Hole Movie Poster
For this project, I was approached by an Elon student working for Cinelon, a student-run film production club, who was looking to have a movie poster created for the winner of their short film script competition. I was given the script to read and then was asked to design of premier-worthy poster based on the script's content. I had a full creative license on the style and design of the poster but continuously checked in with the selection committee throughout my design process to ensure the final product was what they were looking for. In the end, my poster was presented as a full-size print to the winner at The Cinelon End of The Year Award Ceremony.
Iteration
After reading the short script, I wrote down the main symbols and plot points and sketched out three ideas for the design of the poster. I then met with the student I was working with to go over the initial sketches. She liked the idea of the first design the best and asked me to finish the design in two weeks to have time to print it.
I first design the title by starting with the base typeface urbane rounded and manipulated it to fit my design idea. Later I applied overlay to create the texture in it. I then created the central image of the man looking into the hole using reference images in Illustrator. The fish-eye view of the forest was a photo I manipulated in Photoshop an applied an acrylic texture to make it look more like the illustration of the man I made. The laurel was also custom-made for the award given to the script. The additional light dirt texture was a picture I took from a flower bed to add additional content of the character looking into a whole in the ground.
